Andy Schiefer

Principal, Project Architect
Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, B. Arch

Shortly after earning my Bachelor of Architecture in 1987, I began working as an intern with Architects Group Practice. Twenty years later, I acquired the firm upon the retirement of the two founding partners and have since then utilized a hands-on approach to professional development and practice.

Experience gained with time on job sites is critical for professional development and design skill. I consider design and construction not as sequential efforts, but rather two aspects of the same process – each influences the other and the process becomes iterative over the course of a career. The role of Architect as Master Builder is more important now than ever.

Special interests include teaching and mentoring young architects in the skills and craft of the profession, with emphasis on the ethical responsibility of the profession to society.

Henry Mejia

Project Manager
University of Maryland, B. Arch Honors

My career began with a design build firm as a superintendent for residential projects. As a bilingual professional, I leverage this skill in a field that has a multitude of Spanish-speaking workers in the DC metropolitan area. My construction-oriented background helped to land a position at Architects Group Practice in 2004 and has assisted my decision-making as a project manager.

Architecture is not only about manifesting artistic talent, but also about how well that manifestation functions. I look forward to being a part of this professional family for many more years to come. I enjoy working with clients to create well-designed, functional buildings.

Joel DeLeon

Project Manager
Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, B. Arch

After completing my education at Virginia Tech, I moved to northern Virginia to gain professional experience in an urban setting. Over the next decade, I worked on a variety of building types, project scales, and programs with a focus on commercial interiors and single and multifamily construction.

Serving as the project manager for a two-person firm allowed me to gain valuable experience overseeing all aspects of project delivery. Seeking to be part of a larger project team, as well as collaborating with a diverse group of designers, has led me to Architects Group Practice.

My colleagues and I share a commitment to satisfying our clients’ needs while producing quality design. I believe a successful project requires teamwork and a clear design idea unique to each project. As designers, it is important that we bring influences outside of the project’s programmatic requirements in order to create spaces that inspire.

Shireen Gerhold

Director of Interior Design, Director of Business Development
University of North London, B.A. Interior Architecture

My career took off in London, England as a set and exhibition designer in the world of TV. A fast paced and creative environment forced me to think outside the box. This experience gave me a strong foundation for my career ahead, and attributed to my passion for business and design, enabling me to practice a unique hybrid position of both.

From working at the Washington Design Center in residential design, acting as a design consultant for 26 firms across the region, to specializing in car dealership design in the commercial arena, I’ve been fortunate to gain a diverse background in business and design. I believe that my international background of study, travel, and work will bring clients a different and valuable perspective.

Design should not only create beautiful spaces, but be an exciting opportunity to enhance all aspects of living and quality of life. I am very excited to practice interior design in an architectural setting.

Kyle Anderson

Designer
Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, B. Arch

I joined ARGP in 2013 as an architectural designer. During two years of study at the Washington-Alexandria Architecture Center, I received awards from the Northern Virginia AIA for my work. In addition to my digital skills, I have a rigorous enthusiasm for physical media. I have painted for ten years, and apply these skills towards investigating literal and figurative means of representing architecture.

Maedeh Navid

Interior Designer
Marymount University, B. Interior Design

In Iran, my father owns a furniture, kitchen and bath store. Since a young age, I was passionate to be in his store, learning, decorating, and designing. I knew interior design was the path for me.

I love interior design because it brings life and character to spaces. I moved to the United States in high school knowing zero English, wondering how I would adapt. I worked diligently towards my dream, learning interior design at Marymount University. I’ve always been eager to work in the real world, so early in my junior year I started internships in order to gain professional design experience.

After graduation, I began my career with ARGP as an interior designer. Everyone at ARGP has helped me improve my skills, learn, and grow. As part of ARGP team, I will use these skills, knowledge, and experience to create beautiful and functional spaces.

Kerrie Doheny

Office Manager
Strayer University, Bachelor of Business Administration & NCBTMB Certified Massage Therapist

I moved from a small town in Pennsylvania to Northern Virginia three days after graduating high school.  After nearly two decades as an office manager in commercial real estate, I decided to take a leap of faith and change careers.  I have been a practicing certified massage therapist for the last 5 years.

I missed the team atmosphere and being a part of something big and meaningful, so when the opportunity came up to be a part of ARGP, it was a definitely a decision that I never second guessed.

The best part of working with architects:  the talent for creation.
